The Canadian Women’s Club of New York City, Inc. (“CWC”) was founded in the 1920’s. The CWC is devoted to the promotion of camaraderie among Canadian women in the Tri-State area and the encouragement of amicable relations between the people of the United States and Canada.
We bring together women of all ages for social, cultural and professional events. Our members have diverse backgrounds in both the private and public sectors. Our events include activities such as Broadway and museum outings, brunches exploring foods from diverse cultures, skating parties in Central Park, Canadian wine tasting events, charitable works, programs featuring guest speakers and our annual Holiday Dinner.
We have a distinguished history of public service. Over the years, we have used our resources to respond to the urgent needs of the times. For example, in 1941 we donated a mobile feeding kitchen to The British War Relief Society of the United States; in 1997 we donated funds to the Manitoba Flood Relief Fund.
In 1954, the CWC established a Scholarship Trust to advance the education of Canadian citizens in the United States. To date, we have awarded over 50 scholarships to Canadians studying in New York City. The Scholarship Trust is a IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Another goal of the CWC is to recognize and promote Canadian women of achievement in the United States.
There are ever increasing ties between the United States and Canada and ever expanding opportunities for Canadian women to live, work and study in New York. The need for increased understanding between the nations has never been more important. The Club remains a vital resource for both longtime members and newcomers to develop closer social and business relationships and to celebrate our Canadian heritage and our lives in the United States.
Annual Dues are $75.00 for Tri-State members ($25.00 of which is contributed to the Scholarship Trust) and $25.00 for Non-Resident and Student Members. New members are welcomed and may complete an Application for membership on-line.
