Canadian Women’s Club of New York, Inc. 2006 Scholarship Recipient
Charlotte Bydwell
The Canadian Women’s Club of New York, Inc. is proud to award a $10,000 scholarship to Charlotte Bydwell.
Charlotte Bydwell is originally from Montreal, Quebec, where she began dancing at the age of 7. What began as an extra-curricular activity soon turned into a full-time commitment and a future career goal.
While in high school, she was able to pursue a rigorous pre-professional training program at the Ballet Divertimento. The program required Charlotte to dance every morning and attend secondary school in the afternoons. Both institutions allowed her to maintain high levels of academic learning and dance development. In the summers, she was accepted to renowned dance Intensives such as the National Ballet School of Canada, Perry Mansfield for the Performing Arts in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and the Juilliard Summer Intensive.
Upon graduation from high school, Charlotte attended Dawson College for one year in Pure and Applied Sciences. During that year, she prepared herself to audition for the world-famous Juilliard School in dance. In March of 2005, she was one of 12 girls to be admitted to the program after international auditions.
She is currently entering her second year at Juilliard and pursuing studies in classical ballet, a range of modern dance techniques, liberal arts and other dance related courses. She hopes to join a dance company upon graduation, perform on international stages and to some day produce her own choreographic works.
In 1954, we established a Scholarship Trust to advance the education of Canadian citizens in the United States. To date, we have awarded over 50 scholarships to Canadians studying in New York City, with an emphasis in recent years on students of the performing arts. The Scholarship Trust is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
The Canadian Women's Club scholarship is not being offered at this time.
